In my Create with Intuition series, I provide two art prompts every month – an intuitive prompt in the form of a word or phrase to explore, and a visual prompt.

Intuitive Prompt: “Song Lyrics”

Choose a song that you like or has meaning to you.

  • What is the song about?
  • Does it have a special personal meaning to you and if so, why?
  • Has your perception of this song changed since you first heard it?

Use the answers to these questions to inspire your abstract art.

Visual Prompt: Journaling

Photo Collection for Inspiration

There are so many creative and innovative ways to incorporate journaling into your art. Experiment with different lettering styles, from messy to tidy, from script to print; the possibilities are endless! Even if you don’t want to include any actual lettering in your art, there’s still plenty of ways to create a narrative or tell a story. You could use shapes, lines, and other visual elements to represent different characters or ideas, or use a combination of collage and drawing to represent a particular emotion or mood. Whatever your artistic style, there’s a unique way to incorporate journaling into your art.

Tutorial Video

I’m going to demonstrate my own interpretation of the art prompts. Yours may look completely different. The song I chose is “Make You Feel My Love”, written by Bob Dylan and popularized by Adele.

I want to encourage you to use any brushes that you want to for these prompts! Just take a deep breath, think about the prompts, and grab whatever brushes are calling to you in that moment without thinking too much about why.

In my version, I ended up creating an art journal page using the lyrics of the song to inspire different journaling spots, using various different brush sets listed below, and the technical pen from the Procreate default Inking folder for the lettering.

I hope this gave you ideas to make something special and different. Thank you for watching and I’ll talk to you again soon.
