“Safe Place” / Waves – Art Prompts October 2022

In my new series of intuitive art prompts that I’m calling Create with Intuition, I’ll be providing two art prompts every month – an intuitive prompt in the form of a word or phrase to explore, and a visual prompt.

Intuitive Prompt: “Safe Place”

Contemplate this phrase for a few minutes before starting. When you imagine a safe place, what comes to mind? Is it large or small? What are the associated colors, patterns or textures? Is there a memory or experience that comes up when you think about this phrase?

Now take a deep breath and close your eyes. Loosely let the colors, patterns, textures & emotional response from your answers above swirl around in your mind for a minute or two.

What tools are you drawn to? Go with your first instinct – which brush you want to grab first. If nothing comes to you, pick a random brush and commit to stick with that brush through the process

Visual Prompt: Waves

Photo Collection for Inspiration

For this month’s visual prompt, we are incorporating the visual concept of waves. This can be anything that comes to mind for you – maybe it makes you think of waves on the ocean, sound waves, abstract wavy lines and patterns. The idea is a wavy line or a series of wavy lines, as seen in the photo collection.

Tutorial Video

In the following video, I go through my process of being inspired by these prompts, and how it leads me to create a galaxy scene with colorful waves emitting from a planet.

My intent is not for you to follow my exact steps, but instead to inspire you to explore your own inspiration, in whatever style and with whichever brushes you feel inspired to use.

The brushes that I used are my Galaxy brush set for Procreate, and you can see more details about these brushes by following the links below.
