Neutral Mixed Media Abstract Collage

In today’s tutorial we will create a neutral abstract collage piece in the Procreate, using plenty of whimsical embellishments, but with a subtle color palette so that the overall effect is muted. I chose to focus on the top and the bottom of the canvas rather than the middle, in order to create a composition with plenty of white space.

I will be using my new Mixed Media Collage brush set for Procreate, but you can also follow along with the concept using any other painting/drawing and paper texture brushes you might already have. We start out by adding paint texture at the top and bottom of the canvas, then we add some bits of paper to these areas. Next we embellish the composition with a script stamp, stitches, dots, scribbles and more paint to create a central focal point. You can view the tutorial by clicking below.

Please join me as I challenge myself to create a fluid art piece without using the liquify tool at all – instead using the brushes from the set and specifically the “Fluid Pour” brushes which come with quite a bit of built in texture. I tried to keep it very simple with a burst in the middle of the canvas, focusing on color and texture. Using the cell brushes to bring it all together, we then add some gold accents to the middle of the burst.
