Kintsugi Inspired Digital Artwork

In today’s tutorial is inspired by the Japanese concept of Kintsugi, which means “golden joinery” – the art of putting broken pieces of pottery back together using gold. This art form celebrates the broken pieces as a beautiful part of the history of the object, rather trying to hide the flaws. I love this concept and believe it has many applications both in our art practice and also as imperfect human beings with gorgeously complex experiences and personalities, all of which make us who we are.

Our tutorial involves a simple concept of creating lines across the page, then filling each area with art or texture, and finishing off with a gold leaf brush. In the video I will use my Acrylic Pour brushes for the texture, and a brush from my Gold Rush brush set for the joinery, but if you do not have those brushes I want to encourage you to explore any brushes that you have or ideas that come up for how to fill the spaces in your own way.

I would love to see what you come up with! You’re very welcome to tag me on Instagram @alainajensen, use #alainajensenbrushes or share your work in our free facebook group
